So the interview story continues…Kelvin met the project director this morning. He told me that he will be seeing the chairman in the afternoon as he was told that the chairman wants to be involved in the final selection of this position. I was in a dilemma when I heard this as I am not sure if I should be happy about it, I guess I still can’t imagine how we can live and work in Libya.
After the interview, Kelvin called and said the director wanted to see me the next day as he has requested the company to arrange a job for me so that I can join him. The company has also acceded his request to arrange a familarisation trip for us to check out the town that we are going to live and work.
I told him that he has to talk to my parents tonight. Relocation is a major decision and my parents are getting old, they will miss me badly if I will be away for 2 years, yes, the project wll last for 2 years.
My mom reacted strongly and my dad said Libya was a terrorist country in the past. My brother said why go Libya when we have a choice to go to a more developed country. My family were concerned that I will be the only lady to work there with Kelvin in a Muslim country.
Kelvin had a hard time convincing my parents and he had promised to turn down the offer after the familiarisation trip if the environment will not be right for me and family and myself will be more important to him than the job and money. For a moment, I am touched by his words and I guess the same trick worked on my parents, haha.
