This is our first post in this blog.  Kelvin got an interview at the time when we were setting up this blog.  So we thought we should write something about it as this was how we began our Libya’s adventure.

When Kelvin told me he got an interview this morning, I never expect this interview will make a significant change to our lives shortly.  He told me he saw a Libya project on the company’s website and wondered if they will ask him about that project.  My first reaction to him was Libya was in Africa, Africa is the last place that I thought we will want to work in overseas.  I have nothing against the country, just that I hope we can work in a more developed country like USA or Australia.

He called again after the interview and said the company was looking for a project manager in Libya and they will arrange for a second interview with the Project Director if he is shortlisted.  I wasn’t very excited about it, afterall it was Africa.  But Kelvin was very enthusiastic about it, so I went on to read more about the press release about the project on the company’s website.

Being financially trained, I was impressed by the company’s financials and analysts reviews.  He told me that project site is located at Al Marj, an hour drive away from the Benghazi city in Libya.  Benghazi is the second largest city in Libya.  I am relieved that the job is not anywhere near the desert!  I become more receptive when I read more about the Libya from a book he borrowed from the library.

Nevertheless, I was not very keen and I told myself that he may not get the second interview anyway, so I didn’t give much thought about it.
